You open your blog after a long day of work.
(well, actually you've been opening it through your day of work, but let's not really talk about that).
You've not updated your blog for a long time, but still keep checking it to see if someone cares to drop by your blog.
Ah! There's a new comment!!
Eager to see who it is from, and already planning to thank the person for checking your blog, you click the comments section link with anticipation.
And what do you see?
A comment from Jon, telling you about Nike Basketball shoes and capricorn horoscopes ( what on earth this means, I don't know!). Or probably how to make easy and 'free' money (free money-aa, adhu epdi? Find out from Jon!! ;) ).
So what's the solution?
Blogger came up with word verification to prevent spam comments. Gosh, this thing is extremely irritating... typing some nonsensical letters (well the other thing I've never understood is how this helps remove spam!Techies, come over!!)
Another huge thing I've never understood is why spam comments appear: do people actually click on Jon's link and see what Nike Basketball shoes he has to offer?
A dear friend sent me into peals of laughter when she cutely replied for a spam comment. Whether she had done it knowingly or not I don't know, but dear, you really don't have to reply for spam comments!!!
Boy, aren't spam comments giving us good laughs at times?!
Wish I could prevent spam comments without that stupid word verification thing!!

hey saw on a few blogs...it checks if the commet is from a living person or a computer...by askin u to enter the charecters shown on the screen !!....man is that wierd or what !!
Me agrees on the word verification part.. verrrrry irritating!
Agree that word-verification can be irritating. But that's the easiest way to see whether bots or humans left a comment on your page.
After reading this post, I came here thinking I ll have to use that stupid word Verification. Thank God you havent installed it. :D
There is an very easy way to avoid spam...disable the anonymous comment facility...but this will also make it impossible for people without a blogger account to comment, which is not fair...so u gotta decide between "Fair n Spam"!!..also, u can enable the comment notifier, so that atleast u know, who is the commentor, before u open ur blog!:P..
But, it has become a hobby for me to look forward to the newest set of characters at the verification box...there is a very nice logic(apart from the random sequence logic, that I am beginning to notice..) let me verify it first n then come to a conclusion!
tht word verification is not needed if u r receiving only one or two spam comments.just ignore them.but when they come gushing(like in cutraalam falls)no other go.u've to install one WV.
To answer your question 'why in the world spammers choose to post in comments' (besides some innocent ppl may click on it), there is a (evil) logic behind it..
Search engines (like google and others) ranks a page or a site higher in the search results, if another page that is more popular than it, links to it. The logic here being if cnn.com links to your page, then your page must have something very interesting to a lot of ppl.. as cnn is among the top ranking sites.. so google will move up your page rank in the search results.
With blogs getting a lot of visitors these days, the spammers (usually not humans but programs called bots) take advantage of it by simply posting a link back to their site to the comments section in all blogs. Making money out of your fame without requesting your permission.
Didn't I say they are evil ? :)
An entry on spamania... hah, how cool is that. Yea, it can be irritating.
post ku keezha avalo periya gap why? spammers-a confuse pannava? :)
hey vani, even i found the word verification so wierd that I chose to remove the spam comments myself instead of enabling that option! One good thing about spams... it means we are "famous"! :-D
word verification is good. once I got some 10 stupid comments and that was it. turn it on else soon you may get far more than u could delete.
