Random Scribbling...

Oh my god.. Its almost 12 midnight and I've not done my posting for the day!
Ha, I was reading my horoscopes post and was finding one of the last few sentences very funny, the one about bringing the chapta boyfriend home and marrying him....(well, for those who don't know, chapta is how we here call the chinkies)
Hmm..I don't ever think i'll have a chapta as a boy friend... boy, I never will!
I've been teased a great many times for my conservatism, and comments that I've been brought up in a very rigid family....well, i don't quite agree. My family is just traditional, I tell them, and not conservative. We've had a lot of freedom and I know that I've been brought up in such a way that I know what to explore and see in a different world. They've seen to it that I'm not lost when I'm away from home, at the same time not rash enough to enjoy my new freedom like a caged animal let loose...I know my limits and know what to do when and where. Thanks, amma and appa!
Well, so going back to the chapta guy...I've often been a victim of taunting from my friends about how difficult it'll be to find a boy friend for me..."Vani, "they say, "will first ask him if he is a tam bram, then if he is vegetarian, and then if he smokes or drinks..anything in the negative, no way..." I laugh it away. But what's wrong with these conditions anyway? Not that I'm intent on getting a boy friend or anything now....but I surely have my own preferences with some things in life...and I don't want to waste time in a relationship with a person I ultimately won't like to last long. My friends ridicule me for looking at a person strangely if I know he or she drinks or smokes, they say, its all natural in today's world, and that the guy or girl won't be an alcoholic or a chain smoker, but boy, how can I be sure of that? And worse than that, how can I know that this person won't try to persuade me also into the habit? Well, well, nobody agrees with me..
Whoa...I can't think of a heading for this blog...it doesn't speak of one thing in particular!!!!

oh oh, thats tough :) As Jagan said, lot of people drink these days. and drinking socially isn't that bad either. if you start selecting your friends based on this rule, thats hard. Open mindedness should be placed first.

and please, take this on a lighter note :) rombha advice kodukkaranennu thappa nenaichudatha.

You have every rite to feel the way you want.
if you look at late 70s and 80s, smoking among boys was a bigtime fashion. and i find now a days most of the college crowd disliking this. smoking in college reduced drastically. blv me. atleast in india.
this will happen to drinking also.
your hopes of finding one r not far-fetched... :)

Jagan is spot on in that 1% funda.. but then, these are your expectations and getting your guy in that 1% isn't impossible.

hmmm...guess its true that i can't expect guys not to drink or smoke..boy, where are we heading to? a society where people randomly get together often to drink?

Well, the way I see it, you have to like a person for what he or she is (mainly their behavior and character), not their habits. Habits can be changed, but not a person's character.

A person who is a teetoaller neednt have a good character (and vice versa). A couple of my friends at work are habitual smokers, but they are much better people than the teetotallers that I know of - they will be one of the first to help, if I needed something.

The real problem is when habits get the better of a person and spoils their character - if things are under control then these petty bad habits, in my opinion, can be ignored.

@whoever said 99% of the bous drink.....

comeon guys...if you drink ..you dont have to defend yourself with such a generalisation...;-))

I have a bunch of frns who are all teetotallers and non-smokers......

@Vani...you have every right to have your preferences.
Do these guys who preach you to have an open mind will be open for a wife who drinks and flirtatious??? no offences to anyone but open mind doesnt mean losing individuality....

All the best to you Vani...you will deinitely find a guy of your choice...

Ill take Jagans side on this. Most of the guys I know are atleast social drinkers. Surya, before you jump on me, I dont. But I also think that social drinking is not a problem, be in by a male or female.
I know of so many of my friends who's wives from INdia, initially abhorred alcohol of any kind but now are fans of good wine. This doesnt speak bad of the person and hey, the husbands arent unhappy that their wives like wine. They feel that they have good company.
A persons character is his or her true worth and alcohol doesnt speak of a persons character. A person who drinks a lot is a fool. Period. But a person who likes an occasional drink is doing it for the fun of it and male or female, thats their form of enjoyment.
